Square and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said on Thursday that the payment services business is working to create an “open source developer platform” focused on Bitcoin (BTC)-contact financial services.

The initiative will be the latest Bitcoin-focused project led by Dorsey. In recent months, Dorsey has outlined its plans to develop an open-source hardware wallet and its latest benefits, with Bitcoin playing an increasingly important role in its financial footprint through Square’s Cash App.
The startup is led by Mike Brock, who currently serves as the Strategic Development Lead for Cash App. Dorsey tweeted, “Like our new #Bitcoin hardware wallet, we’re going to make it completely transparent. An open roadmap, open development, and open source.”
Dorsey noted that more information is coming, including private Twitter and GitHub accounts.
During an event last month, Dorsey reiterated his belief that Bitcoin should eventually become the local currency of the internet, and positioned Square’s increased use of the technology as a module to that goal.
At the time, he said, “The only reason Square got into Bitcoin was for this purpose.”
