investing. com – Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) shares fell 0.4%. US President Joe Biden accused the company of “killing people” by allowing false information about Covid-19 vaccines to be spread on the company’s social network.

When asked about companies like Facebook, Biden said, “The epidemic is in the midst of the unvaccinated. And they are killing people too,” he said.

Biden’s statements show his growing frustration with social media companies. His administration blames social media companies for slowing the pace of vaccination in many states. In Republican centers in the South and Midwest, where many of the population are skeptical of Democratic Party politics, vaccination has come to a near standstill.

On Thursday, US Health Secretary Vivek Murthy accused social media companies of not doing enough to curb misinformation about vaccines. While scientists point out that vaccines are highly effective in preventing the virus and saving lives, Murthy and other officials in the administration fret that social networks are giving them room to spread bullshit misinformation.

However, the social media giant was quick to respond.

“The Biden administration has chosen to blame a handful of American social media companies,” Guy Rosen, Facebook’s Deputy Director of Works Administration, said Saturday. “The truth is that the number of people accepting the vaccine has increased amid Facebook users in the US. ”

Rosen urged the administration to stop “targeting”.

Leader Biden had set a goal of vaccinating 70% of Americans by July 4, but he could not meet it.

“Facebook is not the reason for missing this goal. ”
